Here is a free MP3 of “How To Rob An Industry Hipster” by Big City Philadelphia

big-city-philadelphia

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you the most important track of 2009.

Big City Philadelphia kinda looks like he should have been a sassmouthed member of Lil Carmine’s crew who got bumped off for zinging the wrong guy circa series 4 of The Sopranos. He’s also only done gone and recorded the most key single of the year so far though, so fair play to him on that one.

The easy critical line is that when Fiddy came through with the original version of this he was trying to show that when the line would be drawn under then-all-consuming jiggy generation he’d be the leader of the new wave, and that BCP is doing the same with the rapidshare hipster-hop kiddies. I don’t buy that. I just think dude jacked a classic beat and proceeded to set to dropping proper good ol’ fashioned punchline rap, rap by rappers who don’t have a clue who fucking, I dunno, Crystal Castles and Fuck Buttons are. The new underground purism starts here imo.

couldn’t agree more – hearing this track was the first breath of air after being suffocated for the last two years in this hipster-hop climate.

“help us obi-wan, you’re our only hope.”
