The thing I learned from Dom, or one of the things, is that being emotionally literate is not the same thing as being compassionate and empathic, and that you can have the one without the other, however depressing and creepy that seems (it’s like sex and love). The thing Gillian learned from Dom is that an emotionally literate person can also be a total fucking arsehole, with the inclination to manipulate, and is the very worst sort of person to care for. Whether or not Brendan is compassionate remains to be seen, but I would be happy to keep in touch with him either way.
